Re: Thermally Modified Dread
Thanks for that explanation Grant. That is a very interesting solution to the problem of the torque placed on the top by the fretboard extension. I am guessing it also eliminates the issue of the 14th fret hump (assuming you don't glue the FB extension anywhere). I have seen in some of your other bu...

Re: Thermally Modified Dread
Hey Grant, Looking good! It is interesting how the TM process darkened the rays on the top more than the rest and made them jump right out. I am guessing that is going to look fantastic with finish on it. I find your bracing pattern quite interesting and would really like to know more about t...

Re: Thermally Modified Dread
Excellent Grant! I will be very interested in hearing what you (and others that can play both) have to say. My plans are to be at Stringfest this year (barring any major events like last year) so I will be really interested in checking them out. I have an open mind as to the value of cooking wood an...

Re: Thermally Modified Dread
It would be interesting to see you build an un-treated one along side this one to see how they compare next to each other. Since you are on the thermally modified bandwagon it would be quite helpful to have something to judge it against. I remain "agnostic" about cooking wood (I need proof...

Re: Documenting my first total thermally modified build
That is looking really good Grant. open pores can look really good and it leaves less finish on the guitar which is a good thing. I rebuilt a little Gibson LG-0 a few years ago which is all Mahogany. I wanted that open pore look so I put 2 coats of sealer and 2 coats of lacquer on it and sanded the ...

Re: L-1 Gibson Build
Joe, What a stunning little guitar! A perfect blend of old and new.
I think the finish you chose was the perfect choice to bring the body and neck together. I bet it sounds pretty sweet too...
Nice job.
Cheers,
Bob

Re: L-1 Gibson Build
Hey Joe, Really sorry to hear you had to move Patty to a nursing home. On one hand it has to be really hard but on the other it is probably a relief knowing she is getting good care. Funny how 50 miles gets much shorter after you have driven it a few time isn't it? I use to drive 45 miles one way to...
