Custom contour Telly commission

Yes, it's true, not all guitars are acoustics; some have single coils and some have buckers, and all of those have some serious electrons. Build 'em, work on 'em, mods, questions, Put 'em here!

Custom contour Telly commission

Post by Bert Foster » Thu Aug 19, 2010 8:50 am

I just last night strung this one up. I notified the customer that it's ready and he wanted to come get it last night around 11:00 PM. He's anxious but I convinced him to wait until today. I didn't take any pictures during the build only the following shots.

Basswood body, EMG Vince Gill Signature
model pre-loaded Strat assembly
custom conturedTelly style body shape.
Top loader hard tail bridge.
(Note not the final bridge just used for alignment)Image

Maple neck Ebony fretboard.
Fretted with tall fat frets.
Very thin back to front
like 60's S.G. Image

Strung and strobed.
Nut cut, action set.

Plays and sounds excellent. Image

Whoa... pretty big step away from tradition there yourself. Looks awesome.
Love the burst, how do you like the EMGs?
As the famed philosopher, Pogo Possum’s friend Porky, observed, “There’s only two possibilities: Either we is the most intelligent life in the universe, or there is life out there which is more intelligent than we are. Either way, it’s a mighty sobering thought.”

Yea it is a step away from tradition. EMG's are the bomb. minus 32db noise gain...no grounding the tail-piece or strings= no shock from a mismatch of polarity between the PA and your amp. No waffle pattern burns on the lips from a SM-58 mike. The customer wanted a 60's SG neck profile with three on a side. It sounds killer. The Vince Gill set up has a EMG Presence control for the third knob...I prefer an EMG Expander but it's not mine to choose.
