Yeup, the biggest benefit is that I can send these guitars out on tour and they don't have to worry about buying/finding a set of 7 string guitar strings. They Tune from B to B. Because on a regular 25.25 scale they need a 56 or 58 to keep the tension for the low B. But with this scale legnth the 54's work great and the neck isn't so long that they can't "shred" as well as they'ed like to. Most every mom and pop shop have a set of heavy guitar strings but they my not have a 7 string set in the middle of Iowa or South Dakota.
Oh, and I just made up the "PreBaritone" title. I didn't think "Banjtar" would sell to metal kids.

Man, I just found this thread and have been pouring over it for about an hour.
That's the best method for top carving I've ever seen; I genuinely think you just took the fear of that process away for me, Todd, so thanks indeed!
Beautiful clean work, wood and electronics -
Is that heavy alum. foil for your shielding?
Do you foil the lid of th control cavity as well?
VERY Cool, he aughta be proud!

Hey Guys, E, Hugh, and Luc.
Yeup, just Furnace/ Duct work tape. And I don't foil the cover PRS doesn't. I leave the clear plastic. My soldering is super clean so why not.
Carving the top: I tried the Benn drill to points deal, on a practice body, and it was the worst thing I've ever tried. Makes no sense to me. I'm so visual and tactile that this was/ is the way to go. Just remember carve a little and sand a lot. And carving Mahog is butter compared to the rock of maple. You can't be as aggressive.
Thanks for the comments.

Very nice lookin' axe Todd! You've taken a few mysteries and fears out of the equation of through necks and contoured bodies. So a big thanks from me too.
