The Back Yard Build Contest!
Re: The Back Yard Build Contest!
E,
I'm in! I have already cut down the honey locust tree, which was stimulated by the other BYB in some other ethernet. And some walnut for accents. But since the nearest I can come to a top is some Eastern red cedar (and that might no longer be available) I've been thinking of a resonator guitar. That way I can use the HL for top, sides and back. Neck too, for that matter. Of course the hardware will have to come from another source, but isn't it that way with tuners and strings too? I'll use a local deer for the nut. Not sure what I'll do for the saddle. Bracing might be from some of that cedar, as I know my friend hasn't sawed it all up for firewood.
But, like some others, I'd like a little more than 6 months.
Jim

Interesting idea Eben. As the new kid in town, I'll have to dig through my limited stash-o-wood. I would probably have to go with the home grown division. Shame it's a 100 mile limitation. I just brought home a chunk of barn wood from the Spur Ranch where my wife's Aunt and Uncle worked for most of their adult lives. Lemme see if I can squeeze in another build and we shall go from there.

Hey Dennis, Welcome aboard. Hey, that 100 year old barn wood, since it used to be part of a barn, qualifies just fine no matter how far away it came fromDennis wrote:Interesting idea Eben.
