Have the back plate engraved foe another set of tuners. A simpler design, but similar to many from the 1830's. Waiting on some more brass rod and then will show how these go together.

OK, about ready to begin assembling the tuners. First, I am making most of the parts from scratch. I will be using the gears from a cheap set of tuners ($12). But, the main reason for using these is that they are easy to disassemble. I will only be using the parts on the right. Here is the new gear housing, made from brass. New parts along with the old they replace. Here us how the gears fit. And here is how it all goes together. This is just an overview to show basically what I am doing. I will post step by step details as I actually build these.

I realize I am getting ahead of myself, and I will go back and show the process, But here is a test fit of all of the parts, minus gears and tuning buttons. The one string post ended up a little short, hence the bushing. I found some .1406" diameter brass rod (same size as the worm gear shafts) that we will silver solder the tuning buttons on to to extend them out to the edge of the peghead. That, and drilling the string holes and this set will be ready for final assembly. Parts are in various stages of completion for 2 or 3 more sets. g
