I agree but I can visualise myself swerving the car over pavements and grass just to get to a skip! Anyway, I've found two doors FOC that should keep me happy until I've carved them up They were right at the back of the garage, behind all the rubbish Deb keeps because 'It might come in handy'. They look to be sapele beneath the undercoat and I'd forgotten I had them.

A little more progress started to rough out the back braces

This is a slow build, I can't seem to find time to progress things at a pace that suits me but it will come together... eventually.

Got the top wood planed down to 4mm this morning not a perfect match but what the hell. It seems tremendously stiff, I have some 4mm spruce and it is nowhere near as stiff as this. Is this good or bad?

Started to build up the bracing, Tacoma style as the last one was a resounding success. There's not much to it so it doesn't take long.

Just a couple more braces then a clean up.

If the wood is that stiff at 4mm I would definitely have planed it down to somewhere around 2.5mm before bracing or maybe even less . I usually go for 2.5 to 3mm in spruce and probably lose a little bit sanding the top after its fitted. I'll be interested to hear the outcome though.

Howie I finish sanded the top down to 2.8mm after joining but it is still jolly stiff, we will have to see when its done I'm a hopefull traveler in this case.

I love going back and forth between your first post (a blue painted door!) and whatever is your current progress point.
