Looking good guys!
But it's interesting, seeing that first shot of the back carving, my thoughts jumped to........ you guys are carving another turtle.......lol. Never noticed the similarity between a mandolin shape and a turtle before seeing this shot!

Grant, when you glued the top on did you have the top upside down and set the rims on (with clamps) then set the tentelones?

Michael, Those are actual kerfed linings (basswood), 5/16 x 3/8", glued to the rims still in the mold to hold the shape. That assembly had been leveled down to the blocks on a sanding board and the linings were again leveled and the top glued and clamped onto that.
My apologies for lack of photos of the process. Mostly just meaning to show what I have been up to rather than a build thread, but will try to answer any questions. Thanks for commenting,
g

That's really looking good, Grant! A mandolin is on my bucket list... one of these days I'll get there.

Thanks Grant, for some reason I was thinking that it looked like individual tentalones(?)

I can't wait to see this one unfold. I plan to one day build a few myself. My mentor would build one "fancy" Mandolin every year. He would tour with it in the summer and sell at the end of the tour.
